I've not been writing as much for the past two weeks, because that's when I started watching my two kids full-time. So far? No regrets whatsoever, though it's tough and time consuming.
I'd rather spend my time working on my spaceship game than writing here, so that's what I've been doing. But I'm still writing discussions for the game. My latest is trying to come up with how the primary narrative device works: The Short Range Communications system. It's pretty much how all dialogue in the game works, so it's pretty important and I want to get it right.
As a reminder, this game is played collaboratively, where you get some friends together to each play a role on the bridge of a starship. My original version of this game requires a game master working behind the scenes to make everything work. The new game works without a game master to make it more accessible to more players (though it still supports a game master, since I think that makes the game more engaging and enjoyable.)
So, how do you build a dialogue system into a spaceship game like mine? More importantly, what tools do you provide so players can write their own storylines? Well, I wrote about it here. I'd love for you to read the main discussion, the comments, and my replies to the comments. I'm feeling pretty good about this one.
