In high school, my English teacher had us keep a writing journal which we added to each day. We could write anything we wanted, it just had to be daily.

I wrote a lot of haikus.

It was mostly because I was lazy and just wanted the grade, partially because I didn’t see the value of writing.

I see the value of writing now, even before the rise of offloading thinking to AI.

I don’t write a daily blog to crank out a post every day. If that was the point, I’d have switched to AI long ago already. I write a daily blog to make sure I remember to think. It’s a daily practice for my brain. A creative ritual to strengthen my writing muscles. (https://nik.art/the-suck-is-why-were-here/)
  • Writing helps me process ideas that aren’t complete.

  • Writing helps me find connections between ideas.

  • Writing helps me remember better.

  • Writing highlights what I’m missing.

  • Writing lets me get feedback on my ideas so I don’t operate in a silo.

  • Writing gives my brain room to breathe.

  • Writing lets me express.

I hope to cover a broad range of topics. Tech, music, religion, design, media, what the heck is going on in the world. Some days I might write an essay about video games. Some days I’ll give thoughts on a link i found interesting. And yes, I’m sure some days I’ll just write a haiku.

I feel my existing tech-focused blog is a little too specific for the kind of writing I want to do. My spaceship game blog has been a good outlet, but it too has a purpose that is separate from what I’m doing here.

I don’t intend to do much editing or proofreading. These won’t be polished posts most of the time.

After all, It’s just a writing journal.
